India is the largest peninsula in the world, surrounded by the Indian Ocean on two sides and the Arabian Sea on one. It has one of the longest coastlines on the planet, interrupted sporadically by its numerous rivers and lakes. Similarly, the Middle East and GCC countries are also surrounded by water, with coastlines along the Persian Gulf, Arabian Sea, and Red Sea. Mauritius, located in the Indian Ocean, is another region known for its beautiful coastline and rich marine life.

In time however, we overlooked the waterways and instead developed an intricate network of roads to improve connectivity.

India boasts a dense network of river systems, creeks, estuaries and canals, totaling to approximately 14,500 kilometres of inland waterways. But only a tiny percentage of goods and passenger traffic take advantage of these waterways despite it being the most effective and economical method for carrying heavy and bulky material, both inland and in the oceans.
